Hua Hin and Cha-am Join Thailand’s MICE City Network
Hua Hin–Cha-am was certified a MICE city on 29 September at Dusit Thani Hua Hin, with the province planning a wellness-focused meetings hub.
Hua Hin and neighbouring Cha-am have officially become a MICE city, joining a national network built to attract international meetings, incentive trips, conventions, and exhibitions. The launch took place on 29 September 2026 at Dusit Thani Hua Hin, according to Pattaya Mail.
The designation comes from a partnership between Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, known as TCEB. Hua Hin–Cha-am is one of six new areas certified this year, which brings Thailand’s total to 16 MICE cities.
What the label means
MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. A MICE city is a destination that the national bureau backs as a place to host that kind of business travel. The aim, as reported, is to draw international events and spread the income they generate across local businesses.
For a resort town better known for beach weekends and golf, it is a shift in how the area is pitched. Hotels, restaurants, farmers, and community groups are all named as expected beneficiaries.
The “5 Senses. One Destination.” pitch
The two provinces are marketing the area under the line “5 Senses. One Destination.” It rests on five elements: wellness, royal heritage, gastronomy, seaside experiences, and sustainability.
Wanpen Mangsri, deputy governor of Phetchaburi, pointed to her province’s strengths. Phetchaburi is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, has three royal palaces, and offers nature activities in Kaeng Krachan National Park. She said the designation is expected to lift income for local businesses and communities.
Hua Hin’s wellness angle
Sittichai Sawatsaen, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, focused on what Hua Hin already has: plenty of hotels, golf courses, and wellness services. The province plans to build on that leisure reputation and develop Hua Hin into a wellness-focused MICE hub.
That fits the way the town has been positioning itself lately. Wellness resorts, spa operators, and beachfront hotels already share the same few kilometres of coast, and a corporate retreat can use all three.
TCEB has outlined five development strategies to support the destination’s international appeal. They cover marketing, products, workforce development, infrastructure, and management. No budgets or event dates were reported alongside them.
What residents might notice
Nothing changes overnight. A certification is a framework, not a booking, and the first visible results would be conference and incentive groups appearing on hotel calendars rather than new buildings.
Residents who work in hospitality could see the effect first, through demand for meeting rooms, catering, transport, and guides. Workforce development is one of the five strategies, so training programmes are the thing to watch for.
