In a tragic incident that resonates with the dangers of reckless driving, a devastating accident occurred in the early hours of January 16, 2024, on Phetkasem Road near the 280+500 kilometer mark in Kui Buri, Prachuap Khiri Khan, not far from Hua Hin. This heartbreaking event, which claimed the lives of two young girls, aged 12 and 14, serves as a grim reminder to the Hua Hin community of the critical need for road safety awareness.
At approximately 4:00 AM, Lieutenant Colonel Natthakorn Pengnarapat, an investigating officer from the Kui Buri Police Station, was alerted to a collision involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle. The emergency response team, including highway police, local rescue units, and the Luang Por In Kut Foundation from Wat Kui Buri, promptly arrived at the scene.
The motorcycle, a red and white Honda Wave 110 with a Prachuap Khiri Khan license plate, was found severely damaged and lying near the central road divider. Its front wheel was completely detached due to the force of the impact. Nearby, an Isuzu pickup truck, used for transporting fresh seafood and also registered in Prachuap Khiri Khan, was parked in the right lane, showing significant front-end damage.
The driver of the pickup, Mr. Theeraphong (surname withheld), 39 years old, was unharmed and cooperated fully with the authorities. He recounted that while driving in the right lane en route to Mahachai in Samut Sakhon, the motorcycle, ridden against traffic, approached him at high speed, leaving him no time to avoid the collision.
Close to the accident site, the bodies of the two young girls, identified as Wichaya (surname withheld), 14, and Chutikan (surname withheld), 12, were discovered. Both suffered severe injuries, including broken limbs and head trauma, and were pronounced dead at the scene despite rescue efforts.
The origin and intended destination of the two girls remain unknown. The police have taken Mr. Theeraphong for further questioning and are currently working to locate the relatives of the deceased to inform them of the tragedy and arrange for the funeral rites.
