The Royal Beach Polo Cup is Coming to Hua Hin

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

On April 8th, the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort will be hosting a unique event – the Princess Pa's Cup Beach Polo. This beachfront polo tournament promises to be an exciting spectacle for all spectators and participants alike.

Beach Polo is a unique form of polo that was first developed in Spain in the 1930s. It is played on a court that is smaller than a traditional polo field, allowing for faster and more intense gameplay. Three to four players make up each team - two forwards and two backs - who play 3 chukkas (periods) of 7 minutes each, with a break between each chukka. Each team has two horses per player, which are swapped out after each chukka to allow for breaks between rides. The goal is to score as many goals as possible before time runs out! You can read more about the rules of polo here.

It also aims to promote the benefits of sport and physical activity, with proceeds from ticket sales going towards supporting the Nabha Foundation that focus on environmental health, economic profitability and social and economic equity, in the areas of education, livelihoods, health, youth employment, women empowerment and heritage.

The tournament in Hua Hin will be an intense game, lasting for four chukkas of seven minutes each. During the game, there will be music playing throughout, creating an atmosphere befitting a royal occasion. After the game has concluded there will be an awards ceremony held where prizes will be presented to members of both teams recognition of their performance on that day.

Beach Polo - A Unique Take on an Ancient Sport

Blog Introduction: Polo has been around for centuries and is often associated with the upper class. However, beach polo is a modern twist on the traditional game that offers a unique experience for both experienced and novice players. Let’s look at what beach polo is and why it has become so popular in recent years.

What Is Beach Polo?

Beach polo, also known as beach polocrosse, is a variation of the traditional polo sport that takes place on a sandy surface instead of grass. It differs from traditional polo in that there are only three players per team instead of four, and each player plays with only one horse. The game consists of six chukkas (periods) of seven minutes each, played on either a 40x80 metre or 50x100 metre court divided into two halves.

The rules are slightly different than those of standard polo; for example, goals must be scored within five seconds after gaining possession of the ball and any penalty shots must be taken within 10 seconds. In addition, each team is allowed two substitutions per game rather than one as in regular polo matches. The goal is to score more goals than your opponent by making passes between teammates while avoiding contact with other players or their horses.

Why Is Beach Polo Popular?

Beach polo has become increasingly popular over the last few years due to its unique combination of speed and skill required to excel at the sport. Unlike regular polo which can be quite expensive because it requires four horses and four riders per team, beach polo only needs three horses per team which makes it much more affordable for people who may not have access to large equestrian facilities or resources. Additionally, beach polo matches take place over shorter periods of time than regular polo matches so they require less energy from both riders and their horses, making it easier to participate even if you don't have much experience with horses or playing sports in general.

Beach polo is a fun new twist on the classic sport of traditional polo that adds an element of excitement while being more accessible and affordable to people who may not have access to high-end equestrian facilities or resources. It requires quick thinking, agility and skill—all while riding atop a galloping horse! If you are looking for an adrenaline-filled outdoor activity this summer, then beach polo might just be the perfect fit!
