Hua Hin Briefing: Tuesday 3 November
A rain warning for 5–9 November names Prachuap Khiri Khan, investigators inspect a Hua Hin quartz mine over alleged forest encroachment, and the provincial capital drills for floods.
Tuesday’s notices come from three directions: a weather warning that reaches the Gulf coast by the weekend, a mining inspection on a Hua Hin hillside, and flood drills in the provincial capital. The weekend plans are at the end, and the events calendar carries the rest.
Heavy rain warning for 5–9 November
The Thai Meteorological Department issued its second notice (285/2569) on 2 November, warning of unsettled weather across the country from Thursday 5 to Monday 9 November. The upper regions get thunderstorms and gusts first, then the south sees heavier rain from 7 to 9 November, with some areas expected to get very heavy falls, InfoQuest reports. Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi appear among the southern provinces named in the notice’s daily lists. Seas in the Gulf could run above 2 metres where storms form, and small boats are told to stay in port. The department has since updated the notice, so check tmd.go.th before travelling on the 7th.
Investigators inspect a Hua Hin quartz mine
Officers from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), forest police and provincial natural resources staff inspected the Hua Hin Quartz mine on 2 November, after a complaint that the operator had expanded into forest land without permission, Thai PBS reports. They found two quartz stockpiles totalling about 3,000 tonnes, a store for explosives and fuel, and heavy machinery including two bulldozers, two backhoes, a rock drill and an ore truck. At the summit, officers saw a large gap blasted into the mountain and a cleared track leading up to it. A DSI officer said the complaint alleges the concession changed hands in 2011 and the new operator ignored the contract. It claims blasting across 41 rai and entry into a further 7 rai of forest. Thai PBS carried no response from the company, and no charges have been reported yet.
Prachuap city drills for floods
Prachuap Khiri Khan’s deputy governor chaired a flood-readiness meeting at the municipality on 2 November, Banmuang reports. The municipality counts 15 flood-prone points in six communities and two shelters: Wat Thammikaram municipal school (1,350–1,500 people) and Ban Khai municipal school (about 1,000). The provincial disaster office warned that both shelters could flood if rain tops 200 millimetres over two days, so officials want an evacuation plan and a longer list of shelters. The two medium reservoirs, Khlong Bueng and Huai Ang Hin, hold under half of their combined 25 million cubic metres. Our report on what the floods mean for trips south has the road picture.
Before Friday’s festival
Glamping Festival 2026 runs Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November at Arena Hua Hin Sports Club, so it falls just before the forecast southern rain peaks. Nothing in the notice singles out Hua Hin, but check the forecast on Friday morning. For this evening, what’s on tonight lists the day’s events.
